Kiskinohamatowin: An International Academic Forum on the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Friday and Saturday, January 18 to 19, 2019 at Robson Hall, 224 Dysart Road, Winnipeg, MB.

This forum for Indigenous peoples, policy makers, advocates and academics will profile research that can assist states and Indigenous peoples in implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This Forum will feature international experts, including current and former members of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, speaking on topics such as international standards, norms, laws and mechanisms related to the human rights of Indigenous peoples and on regional case studies.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Chief Wilton Littlechild, former commissioner of TRC, former member of Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and former member of Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
  • Members of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples including Alexey Tsykarev, Edtami Mansayagan, Kristen Carpenter, and Erika Yamada.
  • Former members of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, Dalee Sambo Dorough and Grand Chief Ed John.
