Robson Hall Law Symposium presents David G. Newman on Lawyers: Waging Peace @ Moot Courtroom B, Robson Hall

David G. Newman, Q.C. will speak to students on Thurs. Feb. 14, 2019 at 12p.m. in Moot Courtroom B. His talk is titled: “Lawyers: Waging Peace.”

Please join the Robson Hall Law Symposium student group for this talk and discussion.
As law students, we do not get enough time or opportunity to think about why certain laws exist, and about the moral, theoretical, and historical implications and context of laws. We also come from diverse backgrounds, have different beliefs, philosophies, and worldviews that we rarely get to explore in relation to law during class time. This group is meant to get law students thinking and talking about the historical and philosophical foundations of law and how our own views intersect or conflict with law in a non-pretentious, respectful, intellectually engaging environment. Our discussions are meant to be a chance to respectfully disagree, express your own viewpoints, challenge and be challenged with the goal of learning from others. We will have scholars, lawyers, and students present research related to the history and philosophy of law and then open up for discussion. We will also have reading groups for those who are interested in diving deeper into certain legal philosophers and historians. Everyone who is interested is welcome!!!
