Annually without fail, the MLSA’s Outreach Committee puts on a Coffee House in addition to other events to raise money for local charities.
This year’s coffee house held Sunday, March 10 at the HUB in University Centre, together with an International Potluck held Tuesday, March 12 in the Common Room, raised about $515, which the Outreach Committee will be donating to the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre.
According to MLSA VP Internal and Outreach Committee member Jennifer Sokal (3L), some coffee house highlights included Caleigh’s Glawson’s law school adaptation of “Ironic” by Alanis Morrisette, Anjali Sandhu’s comedy, and Dr. Curran’s speech as Walter White of Breaking Bad. “The video by Professor Jochelson et al. had the whole room roaring,” she said.
For the International Potluck, Sokal said, “Students could either bring some food or make a donation in order to enjoy the food. We had food items from all over the world, including Metis, Icelantic, Chinese, and Ukranian food!”
MLSA committees carry a rich tradition of involvement and good work in the University and Winnipeg communities. The MLSA is now accepting applications for committees and non-voting directors for the 2019-2020 school year. The Deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 26 at 11:59 p.m. Contact email@example.com for more information.
