With great pleasure, the Dean of Law invites all Faculty of Law Alumni and current students to attend our Homecoming Celebration this fall. It will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at which we will commemorate the 50thanniversary of the official opening of Robson Hall as the home of the Faculty of Law on the Fort Garry Campus of the University of Manitoba.
A reception will commence at 5:00 p.m. at Robson Hall (224 Dysart Road) followed by remarks, and the opening of a 50-year-old Time Capsule that was concealed in the building wall when Robson Hall was first opened. Alumni and guests will be invited to tour the building in the company of current law students, and reconnect with former classmates and faculty members.
Robson Hall is a relative newcomer to the University of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus, having been officially opened in September, 1969, compared to the earliest buildings on campus (including Taché Hall and the Administration Building) which opened in 1912. For its first 55 years, the Manitoba Law School, as it was formerly known, was located in Winnipeg’s downtown area. By the mid-1960s, the law degree curriculum changed and the Faculty grew, leading to the decision to move to the Fort Garry Campus. Robson Hall was named after Hugh Amos Robson(1871 – 1945), an early founder of the Manitoba Law School, former Chief Justice of Manitoba, and politician.
If you would like to attend, please RSVP by Thursday, September 5, 2019 to email@example.com, and please advise of any dietary or mobility requirements.
