More Details to follow.
The MLSA Professional Development Committee is hosting an event on the evening of Wednesday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Inn at the Forks for 2L students to network with small and medium sized law firms.
This event is mainly geared towards upper years who are in the midst of the recruitment process. Therefore, tickets will go on sale for 2&3L’s on November 1 at 12:00pm. There are only 40 tickets available, and they are $12 each. An email and FB post will go out with the link at that time. Any tickets not claimed will become available for 1L’s on November 8 at 12:00pm. We will create a waitlist for the event as well.
In past years, the only small firm event was the Small Firm Wine & Cheese in spring, solely for 2&3Ls to assist in their pursuit of articles. This year, we are opening the Small Firm Wine & Cheese to 1Ls because we think it’s important to start making those connections early. This is why the Round Table prioritizes 2&3Ls, so upper years still have that extra opportunity to create meaningful connections.
$2 of each ticket will be donated towards Bear Clan Patrol Inc. Bear Clan was created to provide security to Indigenous communities in Manitoba. It is community-based so that community people provide security to the community in a non-threatening, non-violent and supportive way. It draws its direction from traditional Indigenous philosophies and practices.
Lawyers will be placed at different tables, and students will rotate through the tables during the evening. Students are given one free drink ticket and will be able to enjoy a cash bar thereafter. Hors d’oeuvre’s will be provided throughout the evening. Conversational prompts (ice breakers) will be placed at tables to help get the conversation flowing.
Business casual. This can be dress pants and a blazer, or a dress/skirt, blouses with or without a blazer. Essentially, it means you don’t have to wear a full suit but still dress for business. Do not wear jeans!
Please note that vaccines are mandatory and have proof of vaccination with you. This is in accordance with MLSA guidelines and Public Health Policies.
