Guest Speakers: Michigan Supreme Court Justice Megan Cavanagh and her father, Ret. Justice Michael Cavanagh

Talk title: Michigan State and Tribal Courts: Forging Relationships by Listening, Learning, and Collaborating

Justice Megan Cavanagh and former Justice Michael Cavanagh will be speaking on Michigan’s Tribal State Federal Judicial Forum.  Former Justice Michael Cavanagh will give a historical perspective on the creation of the Forum, discussing  the process and the nature of the relationship between State and Tribal Courts at the Forum’s inception.  Justice Megan Cavanagh, the Michigan Supreme Court’s current Forum liaison, will discuss the current state of the Forum and how the Courts are working together to collaborate and learn from each other in areas such as Problem Solving and Peacemaking Courts.

Mr. Brett Shelton, staff lawyer with the Native American Rights Fund will also be in attendance to engage in the discussion.
